Simplex Spelling presents a robust methodology for enhancing English spelling and reading skills. It employs a comprehensive approach that integrates phonics lessons, spelling and word patterns, syllabication, and an innovative "reverse phonics" technique to facilitate phonics encoding. The curriculum is also grounded in contextually relevant spelling rules, ensuring that learners can relate to the material in practical ways.

The efficacy of Simplex Spelling has been scientifically validated. A published study indicated that students utilizing the program in a classroom setting over an 18-week period achieved an average spelling improvement of 1.9 grade levels, with some students measuring up to 4.4 grade levels of improvement as assessed by the Schonell Spelling Test.
