Simplex Spelling presents a robust methodology for enhancing English spelling and reading skills. It employs a comprehensive approach that integrates phonics lessons, spelling and word patterns, syllabication, and an innovative "reverse phonics" technique to facilitate phonics encoding. The curriculum is also grounded in contextually relevant spelling rules, ensuring that learners can relate to the material in practical ways.

The efficacy of Simplex Spelling has been scientifically validated. A published study indicated that students utilizing the program in a classroom setting over an 18-week period achieved an average spelling improvement of 1.9 grade levels, with some students measuring up to 4.4 grade levels of improvement as assessed by the Schonell Spelling Test.

The program encompasses a comprehensive curriculum spanning over a year, featuring more than 750 high-frequency words organized into 52 lists based on spelling patterns and difficulty levels. Each list is accompanied by a lesson designed to impart fundamental building blocks of English spelling.

Students engage with new concepts in each lesson that build upon their prior knowledge from Simplex Spelling Phonics 1 & 2. Recommended for ages 9 and above, it is pertinent to note that users cannot create custom spelling lists.
